On Saturday Oct. 7th, Governor Roy Cooper hosted a ceremony to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in North Carolina. The event was held to honor the history and culture of the Hispanic and Latin communities in the state.

The theme for this year's Hispanic Heritage Month is "Latinos: Driving Prosperity, Power, and Progress in America." Governor Cooper wanted to ensure that even non-Hispanic residents of North Carolina could appreciate the culture, so he presented the culture of the month during the ceremony.

In 2017, Governor Cooper signed Executive Order No. 23, creating the Governor's Advisory Council on Hispanic/Latino Affairs. This council is responsible for helping the Governor on issues related to the Hispanic/Latino population in the state and finding ways to better support their communities. During the ceremony, Governor Cooper appointed new advisers to the council.

North Carolina has a growing Hispanic population, and there are many ways for residents to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month across the state. Cardinal Pine issued a list of suggestions, including participating in festivals held in various cities. For example, Charlotte's festival offers seven hours of Hispanic music and dance performances.

Governor Cooper took to Twitter to express his appreciation for the contributions of the Hispanic and Latino communities in North Carolina. He stated, "North Carolina is a stronger place to live and work thanks to the contributions of our Hispanic and Latino communities." The ceremony hosted by Governor Cooper was a way to recognize and celebrate their heritage.

Overall, the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration hosted by Governor Cooper was a meaningful event that highlighted the importance of the Hispanic and Latin communities in North Carolina. It provided an opportunity for residents to learn about and appreciate their culture while also showcasing the state's commitment to supporting these communities.
