FOIA Request to Stokes County Election Department Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NC North Carolina News have sent a request for records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., to the Stokes County Election Department.

Our request pertains specifically to the pre-election test reports of voting machines used in the county's elections. We have asked for these reports in PDF format and requested that they include specific fields such as the test date, machine manufacture, machine model number, and machine status (whether it passed or failed).

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We will continue our efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in our local government's actions. Stay tuned for updates as we follow up on this request.
