Businesses and employees may benefit from the state Legislatures three proposed bills aimed at supporting those who have suffered financially as a result of COVID-19's economic impacts.
In one proposed measure, The Center Square reported on April 7, rules regarding the number of jobs someone applies to per week would be modified. Instead of having to currently apply to three jobs per week to maintain unemployment benefits, the rule would be permanently changed to one job per week.
Another measure would solidify Gov. Roy Cooper's executive order that would let workers whose jobs were affected by coronavirus to qualify for emergency unemployment benefits. This would apply to those who saw a reduction in hours worked or lost their jobs entirely due to the pandemic.
Finally, the third bill being considered waives interest on income for both individual tax returns and corporate taxes from 2019, The Center Square reported.
