Speaker of the House Republican Kevin McCarthy has been removed from his position after accusations of making a deal to avert a government shutdown. McCarthy's ousting has caused a stir within the Republican party, with some members expressing their support for his removal. Congressman Greg Murphy tweeted, "McCarthy showed true leadership this evening by withdrawing his name. It was probably the best thing for the conference. Hopefully, there will be some healing in the next week. I think we will come out stronger than ever. The real enemy is the Leftist Destruction of our country."

This turn of events marks a significant moment in history as McCarthy becomes the first Speaker from North Carolina since 1801, following in the footsteps of Nathanial Macon. Additionally, no Speaker of the House has ever been removed through an oust movement. The push for McCarthy's removal came from Representative Matt Gaetz, who accused McCarthy of going behind the House's back to strike a deal with the Democratic Party in order to avoid a government shutdown.

The vote to remove McCarthy from his position was a close one, with a final tally of 216-210, according to NC Newsline. McCarthy had a significant number of Republicans voting against him, including those who supported a tabling motion that would have stopped the vote from moving forward. This marks only the third time in history that a motion to vacate the Speaker's position has been initiated.

One of the main reasons for McCarthy's removal is his perceived reliance on Democratic votes and allegations of making secret deals in his favor. This latest accusation appears to have been the final straw for those who have been critical of McCarthy's leadership. A recess has been scheduled for October 11 to begin the process of replacing McCarthy, although it may take longer than a day to complete. As of now, Representative Patrick McHenry of North Carolina is on track to replace McCarthy as Speaker of the House.
