After reports of an armed person outside the University of North Carolina's (UNC) union, the university declared another lockdown just two weeks after a previous UNC shooting.

The Chapel Hill Police Department claimed that officers arrested Mickel Deonte Harris, WSOC-TV reported. Harris had already been wanted for previous reports and warrants of activity. Students released a video of police talking to the suspect around 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, right before shelter-in-place alarms went off around the campus.

UNC suggested lockdown lasted around two to three hours, the Washington Post reported. Police lifted the lockdown once they could confirm the gunman was no longer on the campus. Although no shots were fired, the campus alarm was set off because of a previous shooting two weeks prior.

UNC grad student Tailei Qi was charged with first-degree murder after the shooting of Zijie Yan, CNN reported. Yan had been a professor at UNC since 2019 and was beloved by many colleges. Qi was a grad student in Yan's department. Yan was also his advisor. The shooting happened early afternoon on Aug. 28 in the university's chemistry studies building.
