Richmond County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Mar. 11.
Rockingham Dragway’s “Sprint into Spring” schedule ramps up March 12 with a heavyweight doubleheader featuring the Blood, Sweat & Gears car and truck show hosted by Higher Degree Trucks and the NC 22 Streetcar Shootout, part of the Columbia Car Meets series.
Although drag racing is an integral part of the Blood, Sweat & Gears program, the bulk of the attention again is expected to fall on car and truck show judging that will determine the Top 40 in each category plus Best of Show and a host of other special recognition awards.
While Blood, Sweat & Gears car and truck show judging is underway in the sprawling pit area, the NC 22 will take center stage on the track itself with quarter mile racing in Heavyweight and Index classes along with a Stick Shift Shootout and the signature Streetcar Shootout. There also will be roll racing, one of the most popular new hybrid forms of drag racing.
Gates open at 8 a.m. Saturday with show car judging until 4 p.m. Competition in the NC 22 Streetcar Shootout will continue until 8 p.m. with plenty of test-and-tune opportunities between rounds.
Adult admission is $20 to watch both events. Children under six are free with a ticketed adult. Test-and-tuners get unlimited time runs for $40 including driver admission.
