Stokes County Fire & Rescue Association issued the following announcement on Jul. 31.
PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED!
This Technical Rescuer (TR) Water Certification block course will present the Technical Rescuer with the knowledge, skills,
and ability to satisfy the requirements of Chapters 11 and 12 (surface and swift water) of NFPA 1006: Standard for Technical
Rescue Professional Qualifications. Performance Objective: The student will be required to pass a
swim test on the first day of practical testing to ensure their safety as we move into more difficult scenarios. The two-part
swim test requires the student to assume a correct swim posture and swim 100 yards in an aquatic environment, both
with and without a personal flotation device, and have continuous forward motion. The second part of the test
requires the student to tread water for 10 minutes with and without a PFD. Failure of the swim test will result in the
student being unable to complete this course. If the student has access to the following equipment they
should bring it with then to class: Water rescue helmet, PFD (type 3), wet or dry suit, water shoes or boots, and a water
throw bag with water rescue rope. This block course covers all four required parts of the
Technical Rescuer Water certification course series as outlined by the NC Fire and Rescue Commission:
• FIP-6405 TR Water: Rescue Operations
• FIP-6406 TR Water: Rescue Techniques
• FIP-6407 TR Water: Rescue Transportation
• FIP-6408 TR Water: Rescue Victim Management
This transfers as one "all or nothing" block to the Office of
State Fire Marshal (OSFM). Students must successfully
complete all portions to receive certification credit for this
block course.
This is a two-weekend class and you must attend both weekends.
