Multiple COVID-19 cases and possible exposure caused three Rockingham County middle schools to close for two weeks until Oct. 12, the district said in a September Facebook post.

In-person learning will continue while Holmes, Reidsville and Western Rockingham Middle Schools are closed.

The functional skills self-contained classroom at Rockingham Middle School also closed because of possible exposure of COVID-19, Rockingham County Schools posted on its Facebook page.

Holmes Middle School had more than five positive cases of coronavirus, which is a cluster.

“If any staff member or student was directly exposed, they have already been notified and asked to quarantine in addition to all people in their household,” Principal Nicole Lancaster said on the district’s Facebook page. “If you have not received an additional phone call from me saying you were directly exposed, you do not need to get a COVID-19 test.”

The health department also advised Western Rockingham Middle School closed for two weeks because of direct exposure to several seventh-grade classrooms.

“While we cannot release the person’s name due to confidentiality, we can provide you information that there was direct exposure in the seventh-grade classes,” Western Rockingham Middle School Principal Stephanie Wray said in a Facebook post.

Multiple seventh-grade classes were exposed to the coronavirus at Reidsville Middle School, causing it to be closed, Principal Erica Blackwell confirmed on Facebook.
