An industrial park and co-op center are included in the plans for Pee Dee Electric’s investment and project on U.S. Highway 74, the company said in mid-June.
The not-for-profit Wadesboro-based electric cooperative plans on constructing the park and co-op facility near Vintage Road in Lilesville and the I73/74 Rockingham Bypass that is being constructed close by.
“This is an investment in the future of the local area, as well as Pee Dee Electric,” Pee Dee Electric’s CEO and EVP Donnie Spivey said in the company's news release on June 18.
Pee Dee Electric has already bought 70 acres for the industrial park and 50 acres for the new center. The goal is for it to be finished in 2022.
“Anson County has been in need of land and infrastructure to attract new business and industry. Our Board of Directors has had an ongoing discussion about an industrial park in the county as a way to create jobs and spur economic activity,” Spivey said in the news release. “Right now, we need new jobs more than ever before.”
