The North Carolina Senate president claimed that Gov. Roy Cooper's handling of the COVID-19 health crisis shows "hypocrisy" and erodes governmental trust.
Sen. Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) made his critical comments about the Democratic governor on June 24 on his Medium press webpage.
“In Roy Cooper’s North Carolina, the governor can walk with a group of protesters with no mask on, but you can’t take your son or daughter to a playground,” Berger wrote. “... Rioters can break windows and set fires with impunity, but you can’t exercise on an elliptical machine.”
Many businesses have been shut down to control the spread of the virus. In a recent court ruling, a state judge determined bowling alleys could reopen for the first time since March 11, ABC 11 reported in July.
Berger also voiced frustration with the fact the public is required to wear a mask while there was no such enforcement for protesters.
"We’re assured that masses of mask-less people gathered together in the streets caused no rise in cases, yet we’re now all required to wear masks because the danger is too great," Berger said on his website. "The inconsistencies and hypocrisy continue to eat away at the trust in and credibility of this administration."
