Calls from 311 Speedway in Stokes County protest Gov. Roy Cooper's executive order limiting gathering sizes by attending the stock car races at the track did not go as planned.
Instead of a strong visible showing for the afternoon protest — despite having live music and an offer of a free burger and fries with a ticket — the Charlotte Observer reported June 13 that the track's attendance had fewer than the 25 maximum under Cooper's order. The Charlotte Observer's figured include workers and band members. It also noted that throughout the day, the track struggled to reach 25 attendees.
By race time at 7 p.m., the stands were nearly filled with hundreds more fans than the 25 allowed under Cooper’s guidelines, the Charlotte Observer reported. However, it also noted that the stands where empty enough that people could socially distance and not wear their masks.
The 311 Speedway race was not like recent races at Ace Speedway where spectators by the hundreds were close together, drinking and packed the stands, the Charlotte Observer reported.
