Duchess and former TV host are rumored to be in the run to temporarily fulfill former Senator Dianne Feinstein of California. In a response to an article by Fox News talking about Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey, Murphy tweeted, “Like California needs MORE crazy representation?”
Oprah Winfrey has been rumored to be filling in the role of Feinstein, but the Los Angeles Times reported that Winfrey is not considering the seat if it becomes vacant. Feinstein was reported to have passed away on Friday, Sept. 29, at 90 years old, according to Fox News. Governor of California, Democrat Gavin Newsom, is in charge of appointing someone for the next 13 weeks to fill Feinstein’s position.
The New York Post reported that an acquaintance and democratic donor to Gov. Newsom said it isn’t impossible for former Duchess Meghan Markle to take on the role of Feinstein. “Crazier things have happened.” Newsom has previously interviewed Markle for Senate back in 2020 in search of a replacement after Kamala Harris was elected Vice President. Newsom reportedly told Feinstein before her death that he would replace her with a black woman.
California’s Gov. Gavin Newsom has reportedly put his foot in for the presidential office in 2028, according to the Daily Mail UK. Newsom can pick anyone to fulfill Feinstein’s spot until the 2024 election. The issue Newsom is running into with replacing Feinstein is that most of the qualified replacements are planning to run for the position in 2024, giving them a highly unfair advantage. Newsom held a virtual meeting with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to push Markle’s goal of entering U.S. politics. Her ultimate goal is to become president.
