FOIA Request to Rockingham County Election Department Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024. As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NC North Carolina News have submitted a request for records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. ยง132-1.

The request specifically seeks access to the pre-election test reports of the voting machines used in the county’s elections. The desired format for these records is PDF and should include specific fields such as the test date, machine manufacture, machine model number, and machine status (whether it passed or failed).

As an organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a positive response from the Rockingham County Election Department and will continue our efforts in promoting transparency in local government affairs.
